Improving the Quality of Stay in the Outdoor Areas of RUB

As part of its sustainability strategy, Ruhr University Bochum is working to improve the quality of its outdoor spaces in a targeted, needs-oriented and climate-friendly way.

Background & Aim

As part of the strategy Sustainable RUB 2030 (PDF, German), Ruhr University Bochum is committed to a sustainable and climate-resilient campus design. A central component of this strategy is the upgrading of outdoor areas with a particular focus on improving the quality of stay and adapting to climate change.

Aim

The aim is to create a campus where students, staff and guests enjoy spending time – to study, work or simply relax.

Ideas and perspectives are now to be collected for the needs-oriented development of the outdoor facilities. These will be concretized over the course of the project and developed into concepts that will provide the basis for future structural and design measures.

Procedure

  1. Identification of relevant areas – Which outdoor areas are particularly relevant with regard to future measures?
  2. Collection of ideas for the use of space – What do users want?
  3. Concretization of concepts – How can the wishes be implemented in concrete measures so that the quality of stay can be improved in a targeted manner?
Current Phase: Identification of Relevant Areas

In the first phase, we will focus in particular on the ideas and experiences of students, who will be actively involved as daily users of the outdoor spaces.

We therefore invite all students to actively participate and share with us which outdoor spaces are particularly important to them and where they see potential for improvement.
